Here we are already 12 days to 2012 and this will be the first blog of the year from us, Jet Fynn the Ipoh Photographers.......

So fast? What happened to 2011? Time flies when we are busy doing work and whatever time we have is spent doing work for clients. Hence sometimes we don't really update our blogs much though we atheart, we hope that we could update our blogs often so that people who follows us knows what we have been up to.

There were a number of items we would like to achieve this year and hopefully, all the plans can materialise.

Here's sharing one of the most beautiful legs that we have shot recently.....Not forgetting the shoes are as elegant as well!

Coming to the end of 2011

It's time of the year again to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year!
2011 has been a very fruitful year for us and though we still keep a very low profile, we have had the opportunity to serve quite a number of clients.

We also took in apprentices and they really soak in whatever we teach them by observing what we do and also the classes that we conducted in the studio. Min Ho also had an opportunity to serve a a lecturer in TAR College Kampar for 1 semester teaching a group of college students as well.

Looking back, next year would have more in store for our clients and students too.
First in the list, we have been doing sensor cleaning services but never really told anyone except our students.

Let us take this opportunity to say that sensor cleaning services is officially open! Other than sensor cleaning, we can also teach you how to clean them yourself as well.

Here's wishing all of you a productive 2011 and for the coming 2012, stay productive!

Graduation Photography with a Difference! For Ipoh and other areas as well.

Sometimes we get enquiries from many clients asking us whether we do something different from what the usual studios are offering. We actually do a lot more than the common "walk in, smile, click!, thank you!"

We take time to actually know you a little, ask you what type of response you like to have from people looking at your graduation photos. Some would like to have grand looking graduation pictures / portraits, some may want to show that "sense of achievement", some would like to be proud of themselves and some would ask for something really out of the ordinary. (That we always do....hehehehe.)

Hence, our graduation pictures have many of our clients recommending their juniors and other friends to check us out. We may not post much here, just drop by and tell us what you want and we will take it from there.

Though our photography studio is based in Ipoh, to date, we have had clients not only from Ipoh, we had people from Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, Melaka and even graduates from Sarawak as well!

Teaching in TAR College

It's been some time since I wrote on this blog. Perhaps been too busy or just plain no pick me up to write. Anyway, I'm enjoying my weekend with no photoshoot in the morning session so I would like to share a bit on my experience lecturing in TAR College to about 50 students there.

14 weeks have gone by and they are from total newbies until they are rather good after the course.

Here's sharing some of my pictures and life with them in the college.

Actually we do a lot of other genres of photography though we are more known to be wedding photographers. At times many of these gems are just kept in the hard disk and never shown at all. Perhaps we have been keeping a low profile for too long? Maybe so.

Being passionate about our work does many things, we tend to be a little more perfectionist. Some say its good, some may say its fatalistic as we all know that the world is not perfect. Anyway, we are here trying to contribute a little to that "perfection".

Here's a picture taken just outside our studio in Ipoh Garden South. Many thought we went somewhere exotic!

In the end, it's still the fun which makes a typical wedding so memorable. As wedding photographers, we do enjoy being part of their wedding day.

TT session & what is photography all about sharing session

I had a very nice time sharing some of my knowledge on photography with a group of enthusiasts and members from Photomalaysia. Started off with me sharing on the topic "What is photography" which entails photo = light, graphy = graphics or pictures and about light and its different types which may affect the final outcome of the pictures.

Then I invited Oky to share his prize winning shot that uses HDR and he shared some of his techniques on HDR as well.

In the end, everyone had fun and we posed for a group photo using pelepat80's camera. Here below is the pictures of us doing a formal and the fun shot! Enjoy!

Now that fotopic.net is down, most of our samples of our previous work also went down with it.... sob sob, sob... Luckily we have archived most of it in our computers but then to look it all up again and repost may take some time.

Then again, even our works from our website have not been updated also for years! We are very guilty of this fact. Busy is the answer..... (lazy after tedious work perhaps?)

That's life! We are now moving on to other places which perhaps can be more stable. facebook anyone?

A bit about Jet Fynn from the past until 2011

It's the time of the year again to wish everyone a Very Happy New Year 2011...( I'm late by a few days - busy with work. Sorry! )

Jet Fynn as a company is 15 years old this year as we started a long way back in 1996 operating from our humble home on a part-time basis until what we are now to cater for our clients' growing needs. They are our pillars of support as without them, Jet Fynn wouldn't be able to be around for so long.

Looking back, the early years was a struggle and much work had to be done to convince people that photography is a profession just like any other, the person needs to have the dedication, commitment and of course the creativity to be able to carry out client's needs.

Sometimes we get straightforward requests and certain times we get very challenging requests from customers. All of them are taken in enthusiastically as they are something new every time. At times we are honoured and also there are times we were deeply humbled at the complexities that was required to complete the job. And we went through it all with gusto so as to satisfy the required parameters for clients.

Though we started as actual day wedding photographers, our portfolio grew from clients who liked our work and gave us the opportunity to shoot other stuffs for them. For example, any additions to their family was always welcomed and we were asked to return to share their new happiness.

Then came clients who call us to cover their events be it for company or even their grandma's 80th birthday. Further down the road, there was a need to cater for a more demanding client based who prefer a formal setting for their pictures and we have to thank a fellow photographer friend who gave us the impetus to start off our formal studio. They are also the ones who sold us the necessary studio equipments to get us going.

From there on, Jet Fynn Photography Studio officially came into being and we had our studio based in a quaint place in Bandar Baru Bercham. Due to the location which many clients couldn't find us, we took in their views and comments and shifted to Ipoh Garden South in 2006. It was here that we added videography to our portfolio of services with a very experienced videographer associate who shared our views on giving clients the best that we could.

We were still keeping a low profile as our signboard is smaller than the size of an A4 paper! Not surprisingly, many still can't find us. We relied on a lot of goodwill and satisfied customers who kept on recommending us to their family and friends for photography and videography jobs.

What's in store for 2011?

We are still thinking about it as we were rather busy with our work for the month of December. Will keep this thread updated. There will definitely be something on!

At times during a wedding, once the actual day wedding photographer can get along well with their guests and relatives, there are many poses or items which can be done. Sometimes it works and sometimes the people needs some "encouragements".

It also depends on the "props" available during the shoot as well. Here's sharing one which we did in Penang for the wedding dinner guy side.

Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu, ex-Chief Minister of Penang

After hearing about the passing of Tun Dr.Lim Chong Eu, we remembered we have taken pictures of him very recently. He was a very jovial and approachable person. He looked very healthy too.

Because of that, we were shocked that he had passed on yesterday via the news as it was just a few months ago that we had the honour of shooting one ex-chief minister and one the current chief minister together. ( Perhaps this is one of the rare pictures of both chief ministers together? )

Simple Personal Portraits at Jet Fynn Studio

Sometimes clients just want to have several simple shots to remember a certain event or to adhere to a theme for their personal portraits portfolio. Here at Jet Fynn Studio actually loves to do that. Simple, plain and nice.

Straightforward shots with no make -up and minimal fuss.

Then the challenge for us is greater as we need to concentrate on the personality of the client to shine instead of relying on the usual "make-up" & hairdo to hide some technicallities...... ;-)

Portraits with a Purpose

Portrait pictures to us must show some form of purpose or have visual that speaks volumes. Then the portrait will have impact to those who see it. Like below:

The stern eyes, the handsome stare will make a lot of girls' heart melt like looking at a superstar or a famous personality. The details that we concentrate on to get this image to make it work also depends on the client as well.

Hence, for every shoot there must be some form of discussion on the final outcome that is agreeable to both parties before we commence shooting.

University Teknologi Petronas Graduates Photoshoot at Jet Fynn Studio

Some graduates of Universiti Teknologi Petronas or UTP wanted something different from the common commercial studio's offerings and they came over to our Jet Fynn Studio here in Ipoh for their graduation photoshoot last year for a more personalised type of images.

We obliged to their special requests to have something different and here below are some of the samples from their photoshoot and many of them loved it so much and they even recommended many of their friends to make appointments as well.

We truly enjoyed ourselves as many of them came from near and as far as from Sarawak as well!

Not only that, their families were involved in the photoshoot sharing the joys of the achievement and it shows in the outcome too!

Burger King, Burger King! BURGER KING!

We were asked to cover the Burger King official opening event in Ipoh recently and the response to the event was very encouraging as the customers went in and out non-stop.

There were games, contests, 2 beautiful princess for the "King" of the day photoshoot, music and many many more!

We also set up an instant print centre for clients to get their 4R prints as well. Many of them took home a lot of beautiful memories of going to Burger King on that day. We were glad to be part of the whole process.

Jet Fynn sidelined to take Food Photography

There are occasions where clients will ask,

"Do you Jetfynn do anything else other than shooting for weddings and studio portraits? How about food?"

We answered, ok. We can try to do food.

After the shoot, the clients continued... "Can you do the design as well?"

We also answered: "We can try to do that as well....."

Later after the design came out, the next question, "Can you do the print, make it into a signboard and hang it up also?"

Huh? And we still obliged. Cannot turn away a good customer ma.....

Can't do it outdoors? Do it indoors!

At certain times, some of the pictures we wanted to take can't be done outdoors due to the weather. ie: flower tossing to the girls.

So we need to come out with out of the box ideas and execute them indoors with blessings from the couple and their entourage of people!

Some couple went through a lot of experiences before they actually get to marry. This couple went through a lot and at last they got married. The speech relating their trials and tribulations in order to be together made a lot of people in the church located at Jalan Yang Kalsom, Ipoh went emotional and some even cried including the bride.

In the end, a happy ending is ALWAYS emotional!

TNB - Aaaargh! and the hazards of using studio flash

The hazards of using DC studio lighting equipment can be clearly seen in the picture below. During the time of the photoshoot, anything can happen.

No thanks to TNB but we did complete our job and had a nice photo taken though it took us a little more time as we do bring along our battery based back-up equipment to handle situations like these.

Sometimes clients need to be taught how to pose

The idea of a perfect photojournalism in wedding photography without any "interference" from the photographer, can it be done?

Ideally, it should be able to. But then, in certain scenarios some form of coaxing needs to be done. Like teaching the couple how to pose, when to smile, how to react to get the best expression and so on. Usually the photographer just presents the final picture which in many viewer's eyes, it's WOW!

C.A.T.S. The Musical - Ipoh Version

CATS, The Musical, the show that I dreamed of seeing since I knew about it, but then it's located overseas. When I had the chance to shoot the cast of the local version, I jumped at the opportunity to do so.

For these I had to thank Datin Rosalina Ooi for she assembled the CATS team, trained them personally and gave them the opportunity to perform as well. I must say they are great! The charisma, agility and the performance takes a person's breathe away. I'm sure they took mine.

Sometime we get our bride's to do something out of the ordinary and also get her hubby to do the same. This is one of the "composed" shots that we like to do.

This couple, Kevin and Yee Mei got us, the Ipoh Photographers to go down to KL to capture their actual day wedding starting from The Royal Bintang Hotel.

Siva and Mekdha - An Indian Wedding

We received a call from Singapore to enquire about an Indian wedding. Questions came about like:

Have you done Indian weddings before?
How many Indian weddings have you done before?
Can I see some samples?
Are they good?

After much discussions, the client, Mr.Sivabalan Deagarajan, took the plunge to engage us for his wedding. We believe he was still a bit skeptical..... (We can sense that).

Anyway, after the wedding, quite a number of his relatives called us for their weddings......!!!

We had fun shooting in Penang

When Rachel and Leendert called from Netherlands to book us from Ipoh to cover their actual day wedding photography in Penang, we went there with a team of 3 starting to drive from Ipoh very early in the morning. Cassandra, Anne and I had a nice breakfast and off we went.

Rachel was halfway doing her make-up when we arrived so we started shooting whatever we see.

Zaihidy and Hani wedding in Kuala Kangsar by Ipoh Photographers

Clients who loved our work usually will recommend their friends and relatives to cover their weddings. We have one couple who asked us to travel all the way from Ipoh to Kuala Kangar for the their wedding. The bride's sister highly recommended us and the couple trusted her so much that they didn't even need to see our portfolio which we usually do.

The day came and it was a busy day for everyone running about doing their stuffs and I casually waked over to the bride's room after saying hi to the people inside her house. The bride looked so radiant! Of course they do, as always.

We did our job as usual and after the necessary shots were taken, we found that we had time, we ventured outdoors to take pictures around the Istana Iskandariah and the famous Masjid Ubudiah in Bukit Chandan. We went to several other places as well and truly enjoyed ourselves.

During any actual day wedding, what we noticed is that many brides and groom usually don't have enough sleep and wake up with a hangover feel.

There are many ways to go about this matter when the going gets tough:

Suggested items to keep fresh would be:

1) Brands Essence of Chicken
2) Livita / Red Bull
3) Vitamin pills....(lots of it)

What we would really recommend is a good night's sleep..ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

A lovely wedding in Kuala Kangsar - Azneen & Halim

Sometimes we get clients who loved our work so much that they actually booked our services almost 1 year ahead before their wedding. Azneen and Halim is one of them.
They are a fun loving couple who are sooooo in love with each other. Small gestures like a wink, a stare into each other's eyes and all their body language tells us they are very comfortable with each other.

A match made in heaven, enjoyed on earth, here in Kuala Kangsar, Perak.

2010 - A New Beginning.......

Time flies so fast and we are now in 2010. And to think that just 10 years ago we celebrated the new millenium and of course, the fear of the Y2K bug. I was looking through what we have done recently and saw this gem and is sharing it here.

Kuala Kangsar Malay Wedding with Perak River view near Royal Palace

One of the places to go to for an outdoor shoot in Kuala Kangsar would be the riverfront in front of the Royal Perak Palace. We have done these many times and everytime it's a different feeling because of the changing weather with every wedding photoshoot at different times and also affected by the different times of the years as well.

Wedding Ring

In many cultures, in fact in most of the weddings that we took, rings plays a very important part in what most people will call, "Sealing of marriage vows"

It's true. Be it a Chinese wedding, Indian wedding, Malay wedding or even amongst other cultures ie: Western / Christian weddings. Of course there are variations to that theme like a necklace but rings take precedence in most weddings.

Got featured as photographer of the month in Photomalaysia.com

It was one of the surprises of the month as I had an email from Loctormayat mentioning that I was chosen to be the featured photographer for the month of October for the forum Photomalaysia. I replied the email asking him is it true? Stop pulling my legs and this is October lar...not 1st April......

He mentioned that Photomalaysia was featuring a wedding photographer and I had the necessary credentials to be featured. All I had to do was to answer these simple questions:

1) Please tell us a little about yourself.
2) What is your photography history?
3) What is your style? What makes you different from the other wedding photographer?
4) Any advise for young and aspiring wedding photographers in PM.com?

Suddenly I realised I did not really updated my resume and had to crack my head to dig into what to answer. So I spend some time digging into some of my work and selected a few to be posted.

Well, well, well, those memories of the weddings that I covered came running back. Usually what I do is complete the job, deliver to clients and move on to another client. Hence, many of the newer works are in the HDD and DVD files. Come to think of it, I haven't really updated my website for the past 2 years! (Note to self: Update the website with newer portfolios!)

Ms. Tan Siew Lan - Amway Diamond Distributor

One of the moments that can be called an achievement would be getting asked to shoot someone famous or a VIP.

One of the portrait sitting was for an Amway Diamond Distributor - Ms.Tan Siew Lan. She is one of the pioneers who reached the level of Amway Diamond many many years back and is still a very respected person in the Amway world.

During the portrait session in which we had to bring all our studio equipment to do an on location photoshoot, we find that she is a person who cares about the people around her and the smile is rather infectious and the care and concern that she shows is real.

Colin and Lorraine Wedding

Colin and Lorraine's wedding as covered by the Ipoh Wedding Photographer. This lovely couple came to see us after getting to know us from various sources, ie: friends and relatives.

After they came to our studio to see our samples, suddenly it occurred to them that one of their cousin's wedding was covered by us as well.......... Perhaps at that time they did not realise that. Busy enjoying themselves to think about looking for the photographer....hahahah.

Anyway, showed them some of our samples and they confirmed us rather early. As Colin was filling out the form, I noticed that his dad's name looked so familiar. Jerry Francis. Hmmmm, where did that name came from, rings a bell. Suddenly it dawned on me that it was the Jerry Francis of New Straits Times where I applied a job as a stringer and a freelance photographer way back in 1986!

Anyway, back to the couple in today's post. Colin and Lorraine. Here's some images from their wedding.

Malay Wedding magazine cover style from the archives

This is one of the first picture which we attempted to do a malay wedding magazine cover way back in 2005. The design isn't that difficult to execute but then, those days when we know nuts about image editing software, (we were still in film camera mode in transition to digital) this was a big challenge then.

One of the more interesting things that we look forward to every year is the annual graduation pics for the kindergartens. It will be the time to capture the "graduates" from the kindergartens.

The process entails bringing our entire Ipoh Photography Studio's equipment to the school in order to get capture those smiles, cheekiness and some may even show anxiety in front of the camera!

They would be feeling the effects of upgrading to a formal school then. Anyway, here's sharing some of the pictures taken by us. (Taken from the archives)

John and Hwai Yee

One of the more interesting weddings which happened a few years ago where the couple, John and Hwai Yei, engaged us for their wedding photography without even seeing us at all. Just chatted over the phone and voila! We clicked and they gave the job to us.

The interesting part is that the wedding actually held in 2 locations far, far away from our Ipoh base. The bride's "chut mun" is at Safira Club, at Seberang Prai and the groom's house is at Kulim, Kedah.

The day came and we started the journey from Ipoh around 5 a.m. to reach Safira Club around 7 a.m. Just in time to catch Hwai Yei's preparations for the day. ie: the make-up session.

Both these couples really are cheeky and they do show a myriad of emotions and joked at one another. Knowing that they are comfortable with each other and the amount of energy between them is great for us as well. Here are some pics from their wedding.

One of the achievements that we really cherished for Jet Fynn Photography was when a newspaper reporter from Oriental Daily News came up to us to get an interview. Apparently we were recommended as one of the top photographers based in Ipoh, Perak. Hence the interview.

We chatted our our work, how we came about, showed her the pictures that we have done for our clients over the years and how the company came about.

What surprised us was that they gave us a full page write-up instead of an article which we usually see for other people that they interviewed. We were deeply honoured with that.

Victor's Graduation pictures. He wanted to take this series with a difference as compared to the normal portrait poses for the typical graduates.

Benjamin from England and Geetha, a lovely Indian Bride had their wedding done in Sungai Siput with the ceremony done in an Indian Temple. The couple, their friends and family had a great time and so did I.

And to think that Geetha called from England to confirm us. The interesting item that I came to find out later was her dad actually asked her this, " How does a Chinese Photographer know about Indian Culture?" I actually surmised to myself, let's do our job and let them have their memories as per what we usually do for every wedding project that we undertook.

When the delivery came, her dad came for the CD copy. He commented that Anne & I did a good job together with one of our photographer Kenneth.

The wedding of Jean and Justin was fun as they planned a great surprise for their guests and relatives. It was held at Damai Laut Resort and we are the official photographers.

The best part is.... Jean booked us from Australia.

Baby Syuen

One of the more regular clients that we have is this baby Syuen. She has this cute look on her everytime I lift up the camera.

Babies have an attention span during a photoshoot of about 25-35 minutes, thus we really need to work fast to get the shots right!

Imagine suddenly we at Jet Fynn Photography here in Ipoh received a phone call one lazy Sunday afternoon from overseas (USA, more specifically) asking us whether we accept bookings for a studio portraiture. Naturally we felt elated as they booked us 6 months ahead.

When the day came we were wondering how they look like, and wow! Both of them look fabulous!

We spent sometime chatting during the make-up and hairdo session and found that Ming was actually a local guy who is now based in USA and Vilma is a lawyer also based in USA but originally from Panama.

One of the things about weddings is that sometimes one learns that new experiences are to be enjoyed. There are times impromptu items which traditionally needs a long time to complete may find a new twist to it.

ie: the shaking hands of relatives. (What if there are too many and there's a time constraints?) Solution: Ask them to line up in a row and the groom/bride shakes their hands while running!Well, in the end, a happy family is all that matters!

Received an email and a call from Australia enquiring about our wedding photography, Kia asked, "Are you available for my wedding?" Checked the calendar, yes, Yes, YES! I'm available......

Anyway, the day came and we went on shooting happily and delivered. They even ordered 3 wedding albums. 1 for themselves and one each for their own parents!

Malaysian Groom, Singapore Bride, Ipoh Photographer

This series does show that love always crosses all boundaries and borders. Mixed culture weddings do always comes about something interesting to see and experience. This Singapore based couple (Kean Beng and Faziana) came back to Ipoh to have their wedding ceremony chinese style.

My First Digital Wedding Shoot

This series was one of the first few weddings taken with during the early days of digital SLR for us Jet Fynn the Ipoh Photographers after spending so many years using the trustworthy film cameras. Once we started with this, we did not look back since......

Now most of the remaining film stock has expired due to this conversion to digital.

The workflow and the whole process of digital has actually changed the way we do our shots. Previously during film days we had to make sure every shot is a keeper, hence the pictures taken then was rather conservative and hence "safe".

When digital came, we had fun doing what we wanted to do or the items that was pent-up due to the limitations of film was no longer an issue, we really experiment on our images. This early series' angles was still rather conservative though. Perhaps it's due to being used to film..... a lot of getting used to.

After being a wedding photographer for so many years, one can think they have seen it all. Trust me, there will be days where something new or something interesting out of the ordinary will happen. In fact, every wedding has it's differences here or there subjective to the culture concern but this one is one which beats them all!

In any chinese wedding, in fact all weddings, the wedding couple usually follows a certain tradition when it comes to wedding attire. The groom will wear a coat, a tuxedo or for the more traditional ones, perhaps a traditional chinese coat.

Surprise, SURPRISE! When it came to this one the groom had other ideas.....

which came as a surprise to almost all of us! Wearing only a jacket, "pagoda" t-shirt clad in jeans and casual shoes holding a beautiful bouquet of flowers to woo the bride.

The bride is of course looking her best in her full wedding gown waiting for her 'knight' in shining armour....err until he came, looking like the above.....

This is one reason one can never be bored being a wedding photographer...

Found this gem while cleaning up the cupboard and took me back to the early days of actual day wedding photography using film. Then there's no digital memory and we need to make sure every click counts because if the picture don't turn out the way it was visualized, then it's cost and also wastage.

I can still remember clearly this actual day wedding shot taken in the room of the bride before the arrival of the groom with the trusty old Yashica FX3 with Carl Zeiss T-Planar lens + a center spot filter. If I can recall, it's the bride's house located somewhere in Pasir Puteh, Ipoh.

Ahhh...those were the days before computer, digital and photoshop changed the entire landscape of wedding photography or photography for that matter.

Photography Classes II

Teaching theory lessons in class sometimes is a little too academic. As such, we went for an outdoor actual shoot that would spice up somewhat mundane classroom environment.(All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, or Jill for that matter)

Took them for an outdoor shoot in Taman D.R. Seenivasagam where they spent a couple of hours shooting a list of specified items that they have learnt in class. More specifically they have to submit their pictures for valuation and grading.

These are more shots of my students in action. Sometimes observing them in action brings me back to the days when I learnt photography using film more than 20 years ago. Nowadays with digital, the learning process is not that painful to the pocket and the waiting period in between shots is reduced to looking at the LCD panel at the back of the camera.

Then again, though we may be seriously learning photography, some of the students do take the time to have fun along the way.....

Should I penalise them? Nah.....

Photography Classes

By just being a photographer sometimes is not enough. The joy of taking pictures and just sharing with customers their pictures is a good start. The joy and the "look" of the customers when they see themselves in the pictures that we take gives us tremendous satisfaction as it is.

The better way to get that kind of satisfaction is actually being able to share the knowledge around and get more people acquiring the skills to capture better pictures. Hence, we have photography classes for people who may want to learn more.

Some of our close friends and well wishing friends have asked this question. Would they take away your business? Personally, if they want to. Why not? Perhaps they could even be a part of the company as well.

Here's some of the pictures taken some time back when I was conducting classes for a reputable college here in Ipoh.

Perhaps I should start another class now. It's been quite some time now that I didn't do this.

Took a break overseas - Yogjakrta, Prambanan & Borobudur

Sometimes taking a break from the normal routine of working, working, and more work, we should take a holiday of some sort to clear the mind and perhaps expand the mind to include other things. Getting out of the same routine of photographing weddings, weddings and more weddings is rather repetitious.

Like spending more time with family, friends and to a longer extent, staff. We planned this holiday break last year, welcomed it last week and came back just a few days ago.

The whole journey was a simple one. Our target was Jogja, Prambanan & Borobudur - 5 days. Quite a free and easy relaxing trip I would say.

The whole trip actually gave us new ideas and new concepts which we will apply on our next photography assignment and more.

Victorian Rhapsody in Keretapi Tanah Melayu Station. Ipoh

This is one event where one can wonder, Victorian era theme for a charity function? At first, we were wondering how the theme can be accepted by the Ipoh community at large. Then again, with the guidance of Adrian Fu, the organiser, the event went well. Very successful I would say.

Glad that we the Jet Fynn Photographers were able to be part of the event that is held at the KTM Station. How appropriate! The ambience of the place do lend itself to a Victorian era feel to it.

The participants themselves also took it to themselves to dress appropriately to adhere to the theme. With the added fashion show and also Datin Rosalina personally teaching the participants to a classical dance routine, everyone had FUN!

Afghan Girl - An Inspiration on concept

Afghan girl - The image taken by Steve McCurry, actually has produced an inspiration for Jet Fynn's wedding portrait photography. The eyes, especially the eyes of the girl tells a story by itself.

One is taken during an Afghan war and we contrast it with a shot taken on a happy occasion, a wedding.

Both have mesmerising eyes which fascinates us. That's where the similarities ends.

Cheers or Yam Seng or Kampai.... the very words that is used when we cheer each other for a drink or some would go to finish up their glass to the very last drop. Some would call it "Bottoms Up!"

Drinking for any happy occasion is a very good way to relieve stress and perhaps to create a closer bond between the group one belongs to. Sometimes we have to make sure we don't overdo it though. Hangover is one thing that we don't need.

Anyway, signing off for today is a picture taken on the occasion of a garden wedding held in Clearwater Sanctuary, Batu Gajah by us.

Baby Jia Jia

One of the most "coolest" baby that we had in our studio because of her temperament during the photo sitting at the Jet Fynn Studio. No crying, fears or clinging on to mum during the entire shoot.

Really liked her personality where she can do quite a lot of "poses" where sometimes kids or grown ups needed more prodding.....

In other words, she is a natural.

Zher - The New 8TV Quickie Host

Portraits of Zher, taken by us 4 years ago before she became the new 8TV Quickie host at our Jet Fynn Photography Studio in Ipoh.

The best part of it is she asked her friend to drive her all the way from KL to Ipoh just for the portrait session. We had spent about 2 hours for the photoshoot doing plenty of poses with a few change of clothes that ranges from the casual look to the hip look. Sharing 2 images here.

This couple Terry & Jovo, engaged us the Ipoh Photographers to go all the way down to Teluk Intan and Langkap to cover their wedding.

Sometimes an inspiration just pops out and we ask the couple to do something out of the ordinary. Note the motif on the cloth they were carrying. They are supposed to copy their pose exactly as per the motif.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

This one we believe it captured their cheekiness are using it for their CD cover. :D

Studio Portraits - Indoor & Outdoor

Studio photography is one of the areas where one can really control the lighting to get the pictures according to the feel or the mood that a photographer wants. We here at Jet Fynn Photography in Ipoh always experiment with new concepts and lighting styles according to the client's requirements or briefing.

Be it a personal portrait or even a group photo, the idea is to control the studio lights in a way to make the subject look more 3 dimensional and more pleasing to the eye of the viewer. Sometimes we even have clients who brings along a magazine cutout and request us to do the same. We will always gladly oblige.

There are no hard and fast rules on going about this. Experiment until a style of your own or most comfortable with. In this digital age, experimenting like these is the norm.

Flash Meter

This is one gadget that most new digital photographers tend to miss out due to the the digital review on the DSLR. During the film days, this is one tool that a professional photographer needs to have in his arsenal so as to get the light reading right on spot before the actual shooting takes place.

Now what we can see most photographers do is that the shoot, view through their LCD screends, make necessary adjustments and shoot again. So much easier. Then again, this small gadget is very useful for metering the amount of adjustments needed before the shoot and waste shutter clicks.

Ah well, different opinions amongst photographers may result in diverse use for this gadget. To me personally, the flash meter has been with me for more than 10 years now and it's still being utilised for some detailed shoots at our Ipoh Photography Studio.

She is one of the rare beauty that shines through with minimal or even without any make-up. It was an interesting photography session at our Ipoh Jet Fynn Photography studio where we spent about 2 hours shooting the various poses and a few change of clothes to have several types of theme.

Jovial person to work with and she can listen to instructions well and also shares her opinions on how she would like her pictures taken too.

Graduation Pictures

Every now and then we were asked to capture pictures of graduates and also their family. These we always obliged as there are many graduates came our way yearly. Then again, sometimes the "normal" shots taken for a typical graduate just doesn't cut it.

Let's see, sometimes we were surprised as they came from all over Malaysia to our studio. Just recently we had a family who came all the way from Kuching, Sarawak! (Thanks, Eva & Family!)

Creativity and thinking out of the box do have it's advantages. Personally, there were a number of people who asked why in our studio we do not have the "standard" bookshelf backdrop. Hmmm.... how to answer that question?

Actually, we wanted to be a little different from the other standard offerings here at our Jet Fynn Studio.

Photographing children is one avenue where one needs to expect the unexpected. Some may be quiet on one end and the other end is just very, very challenging with those who are extremely hyperactive.

During a course of photoshoot, be it in the studio or in their "natural" environment. ie: their own house, things that we have to look out for is their propensity to be curious about "this stranger" who carries a bulky thingy trying to play monkey in front of them..... errrr

Anyway, it's fun! Here's a few of the shots that we have taken out from the files to share.

Fridge Magnet cum Note Holder

Jenny & Kim Loong Wedding

Jenny and Kim Loong, one of our couples who forgo the traditional bridal studio shoot and opted only for the Actual Day Wedding Photography only. Thus during the actual day, there were plenty of questions asked,

ie: "Where is your wedding photos?"

The answer was simple: "You will be in it as it's been taken now, look at the photographer over there!"

At first glance, Kim Loong really looks like the Hong Kong actor Leong Chiu Wai. Perhaps if the need a body double, they can ask us where to find him. ;) The day with them was fun as both of them has the kind of intimate communication link between them. (Sometimes the body gesture is enough to tell a story.....)

Dad, Mum & a Baby

Family shoot that involves a small baby have to be fast and only a few clicks should wrap up the job. We can't be shooting like a modelling photoshoot where the flash keeps on blinking, right?

Have to be sensitive to the small little baby's eyes, just in case.....

Anyway, any addition to the family is always a welcomed joy. Pictures like these almost always ends up printed in credit card size to be kept in the wallets. I'm still keeping mine.

With 2008 behind us, the resolutions for the year 2009, err......(Did not really think of it yet! Been really busy.)

Anyway, one of the items in mind would be to share more news and stories about the people that we photograph.

We still have quite a reasonable number of clients for the year 2008 though we have kept such a low profile all these while.

As we tried to clear some items from our HDD which seems to be full all the time, we came across 1 item which mentioned us in the newspaper. We are posting this to share..... Perhaps this year we will strive to be higher profiled on our activities.

It's Christmas time again and the usual rounds of merry and wishing each other is high on the air. Festivities galore with shoppings, holidays, meeting up with friends and families together this yuletide season......

And I have to work because there is one lovely couple getting married...... Hmmmm, will be spending my Christmas again with clients. Seems to be the trend to get hitched during the holiday or festive season because that is the time where most of the friends and relatives would be free.

Well, we were rather busy lately to really update our website to include the many Indian weddings that we have covered over the years.

As such, we are posting Rebekah & Sunil's Engagement shots here which was taken recently to showcase our ability to cover an Indian wedding.

One thing for sure, Indian weddings have one of the more colourful weddings as compared to the other races that we have in Malaysia. It is also a fact that Indian culture dates back to a few thousand years, we just have to appreciate the richness of their culture.

Magazine Cover Layout

This magazine cover layout was done in 2005 when digital SLR's are still in it's infancy.

It was also my first try at handling the intricacies of using photo editing software to gain some impact on the presentation. There were many tries before this final layout was accepted.

This picture has been used as an icon in many forums that I have signed in and I'm still attached to this one image. Personally have even updated the company Facebook using this image too.

Ah well...... Only time will tell.

Michael & Mei Chan at St.Michael's Institution

One of the more interesting places to have an outdoor shoot in and around Ipoh would be this place. St. Michael's Institution, Ipoh.

We the Ipoh, Perak Photographers had that opportunity when Michael and Mei Chan confirmed us for their actual day wedding. It was Michael who went to all the trouble to get the official permission to take their outdoor wedding photographs there.

At first, the security personnel there refused to allow us in until the clearance was given. Then again, she would follow us everywhere as we were going around the school to take the various locations and angles.

In order to get into this place however, needs a proper permission from the school. It helps if you are an ex-student there.

Kohila Devan & Reshma

This is one of the more memorable Indian weddings that we, the Ipoh Photographers have covered in recent times.

What made this wedding a special one is the multi cultural and the multi religious aspect of the celebrations.

ie:

Morning - Indian Temple Ceremony

Afternoon - Simple and yet interesting outdoor shoot.

Evening - This one started of with a traditional Lion Dance. Hmmmmm.... A very Chinese "Lion Dance" in an Indian Wedding? This is already very interesting until dinner was about to be served.

- Then a pastor came up on stage and gave a blessing before all of us partake in the food.

We were like.....WOW! Indian, Chinese and even Christianity in an Indian Wedding. Not in my life I have had an experience like this. For this we have to thank Kohila & Reshma for giving us the opportunity to capture their wedding.

Furniture Catalog

We were asked to do a commercial shoot for a furniture catalog and the client showed us some samples from overseas....

We were like, wow! To recreate something similar to western styled high quality furniture shoot that will appeal to the clients from USA and also Europe markets as their target market is actually there.

Ingredients for a FUN WEDDING

The food that the groom and his entourage have to endure during a typical Chinese Wedding before they are allowed to even enter the house.

Normally the "Chi Mui's" (Female Friends & Relatives of the Bride) will prepare something for the groom and his entourage of "Heng Tai's" to consume for the sake of having fun.

The food signifies the process that a couple has to go through in their entire life. ie: "Tim" - The Sweet, "Suen" - Sour, "Fu" - Bitter & lastly "Lat" - Hot/Heat

There are many variations to this game and in our experience, there's always something new concocted.

As we were going to the Ipoh Town Hall to cover an Indian Wedding, we were scouting around for a nice surrounding for us to shoot some scenic shoot and we found just the right thing.

It, IT OVERWHELMED US......

and it's a Malaysian Flag.

By being under the flag raised a lot of emotional feelings, a sense of responsibility and belonging.

How we work

In the scheme of things, we have to work in many local and sometimes in other areas which we haven't been before. Hence, impromptu shooting after say a few minutes of recce in a surrounding area will suffice especially when the luxury of time is a main factor when we do these types of outdoor shoot.

Weather conditions also play a big part in deciding whether the planned outdoor shoot can take place or not.

When we do have an outdoor shoot, it will always end in a fun time for all those involved as we will ask the couples to do the conventional stuffs and not to forget, the fancy stuffs as well.

This was taken in Batu Kurau. The day had a very heavy rain and all the original plan for the outdoor shoot was washed away and the "supposed" river dunking session had to be called off as the river had fast rising waters and the current was also too strong for comfort.

Due to that we had to stay on ground level for most of the outdoor shoot.

St. Andrew's Church. Ipoh.

One of the more beautiful church in Ipoh to have a church wedding. The church exterior itself has the ambience of European feel just by being there. Anyone who goes there will attest to that.

They have recently added air conditioning to the whole building. Personally it was a nice move to provide comfort to the church's congregation. However, somehow or rather the ambience of the original state seems to be lacking after the "upgrading"

However, the church is still one of the best places for photography and "feel".

Highly recommended for couples who would like to have their wedding done there.

Double "HEI" Chinese Word

The double "HEI" word is the most used word in any chinese wedding as it represents DOUBLE HAPPINESS for the couple. They are used sparingly throughout a wedding.

In the olden days, it used to be cut from a single piece of red paper and almost exclusively done by the tai kum jie. ( The person who's a wedding consultant to the family on matters pertaining to the rituals and ceremonies to be followed)

Nowadays it's available in many forms other than the traditional paper cut. There's the newer version where it's mass produced in the form of stickers to accommodate increasing demand for convenience and also the traditional red paper seemed to be difficult to source too.

Modern designs to the word also appeared in recent times just like the above picture.

Incidently, this picture angle is also a popular style used by a lot of actual day wedding photographers of which I noticed.

Syuen Hotel Ballroom for Wedding Function

Syuen Hotel Ballroom has one of the biggest space or ballroom area in Ipoh. The ambience is there for a grand wedding and can even be expanded until the Silverboat Restaurant area in case one might need to add more tables.

The stage is a large one where people from the back can also view without any problems. There is also ample space for projector sized backdrops too.

If one were to spend a little more on decorations, the place can light up and the ambience can be much better.

We have done many weddings and functions there and always come back with sweet memories as there can be many variable themes available from the management.

We were asked to do a commercial shoot at our Ipoh Studio for a company that deals with stones and clay based materials.

And the additional item in the list was we had to come out with the design as well. Done that and the sample is as the above. Shrank the file a bit small. maybe post a bigger file later.

Sometimes I'm asked, what equipments do you use for your photography work? Now this is a question that I would like to answer.

I would say it's subjective to the event or what is the job entails. Let's take an example of a wedding.

Here below would be a typical amount of equipment taken out for a wedding photography event.
The emphasis is: backup, Backup, BACKUP!
